Kadir van Lohuizen (based in Amsterdam) is a Dutch photographer and filmmaker and has covered conflicts in Africa and elsewhere. He is best known for his long-term projects on the seven longest rivers of the world; rising sea levels; the diamond industry; migration in the Americas; Wasteland, where he investigated (mis)management of waste in six mega cities; the Arctic, the new frontier; as well as Food for Thought on the global food industry. He directed and presented several television productions and is currently writing a children’s book, Rising Tides.
Van Lohuizen has received numerous prizes and awards in photojournalism. He is a co-founder of NOOR Images. In 2000 and 2002 Kadir was a jury member of the World Press Photo contest and was on the supervisory board of the World Press Photo Foundation for eight years.
The photo series and book Food for Thought investigates the world behind our food: Where is our food produced? And how is it distributed around our world? Like a fly on the wall, photographer and filmmaker Kadir van Lohuizen follows the entire process: in Kenya, the USA, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), China and the Netherlands, his home country. The large scale and efficiency of most food companies evoke as much respect as questions: What are the effects of these production and consumption chains on the planet? And how future-proof are they? Food for thought, indeed. In this book, van Lohuizen showcases his impressions, in addition to facts and figures behind the global food industry and unique infographics.
