ABOUT THIS SALON

Studio Schwitalla operates at the confluence of architecture, urban mobility, and urban design. The studio’s work is driven by a commitment to reimagining and innovating spaces for both movement and stillness, aiming to enhance urban life quality. Their projects exemplify this philosophy by integrating mobility solutions into the fabric of the city, transforming transit spaces into areas of social interaction and community engagement.

The discussion will be joined by Jan Kerhart, co-founder of Berlin 2037, an initiative striving to shape Berlin’s future: Riding a bike in the city of the future: with the help of a VR headset, users can immerse themselves in a visionary Berlin in the year 2037 while riding a permanently installed bike. The VR experience presents the image of a model city utilizing best practices from urban planning, mobility, and digital networking.

Exemplary projects illustrating Studio Schwitalla’s vision:

Audi Urban Future Award 2014 – A visionary concept developed with Schindler elevators and Audi AG that proposes the seamless integration of autonomous vehicles and urban infrastructure to enhance future city living in Berlin.

Micro Mobility Neighborhood – A research-driven prototype, envisioning a walkable, car-free neighborhood that prioritizes micro-mobility and shared mobility systems.

Mobility Hubs Oberbillwerder – An interdisciplinary study developed with IBA Hamburg, that establishes a network of multimodal transit hubs supporting a car-reduced urban development in Hamburg’s new district Oberbillwerder.

Through such projects (comprehensive overview), Studio Schwitalla demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to urban design, where mobility is not just about movement but also about creating spaces that enhance human connections and urban liveability.
